We're aiming to be a little different in our approach to the gear we recommend & sell, in that this is all stuff we have used, tested & can heartily put forward as the best in it's category in the market. You won't see a broad choice of products, & unlike most retail stores we won't try to ram something down your throat just because it's the product we make the most money from. We're staking our hard won reputation on this paddling range, & don't expect you to be disappointed with the performance of your gear. We will also give you a detailed breakdown of why we've chosen a particular product for our range, as well as where & how we've used it. Reed Chillcheater is here. The world's most advanced & proven sea kayaking expedition wear, is now available in Australia at the same prices you'd be paying if you resided in the UK. Reed Chill Cheater have developed Aquatherm, the revolutionary new material which provides insulation from wind and wet and gives protection from UV rays.
A Reed Chill Cheater provides a thermal barrier similar to a traditional wetsuit, but is lighter, more flexible and is easier to get on and off. The smooth polyurethane outer surface sheds water incredibly quickly minimising the effects of windchill. The matt black finish also maximises heat absorption from the sun and coupled with body heat maintains a thin layer of warm water between your skin and the fabrics. Reed Chillcheater gear is designed by sea kayakers, for sea kayakers and has been used on expeditions the world over, from the sub Antarctic to the North Sea. UPDATE - we have added the Aquatherm Short Sleeved Paddle Top and the Aquatherm Cockpit Cover.

Reed Chillcheater Aquatherm Touring Cag

(Aquatherm and Super Stretch Aquatherm Fabrics). A uniquely soft and comfortable cag that can be worn next to the skin or over thermals in the cold.
This cag makes use of our new front baffle neck seal, which, with its wider neck gape when undone, allows for good ventilation on prolonged journeys. Super stretch Aquatherm dry seals on the cuff and neck offers a more comfortable fit over a broader area of your wrist and neck, giving a comfortable seal without the cruder pressure associated with traditional latex seals (great for folks who may have grumbling problems with tendonitis.) The seals are tough and durable and non splitting, and are not a “write off” should you puncture them. There is a snap on / off hood with a wired brim with adjustable straps at the sides to get a snug fit for when the weather closes in. Reflective strips are on the hood, and cuffs for added safety. All seams are stitched and tape for strength and water tightness. The body has an adjustable twin waist seal fixing securely over your deck.

Reed Transpire Fleece Top (NEW)

Incredibly comfortable fleece on the inside. High lycra content. Worn as a base layer, the top is ideal under a dry or membrane suit for diving, or under a cag for kayaking. The Transpire fleece is made from an anti-snag fabric, featuring yarns coated with durable, water-repellant coating, which makes the garment warm wet or dry. Terrific fast wicking performance, with a fleeces weight to warmth ratio which leads it’s class.
Fitting should be skin tight (allowing the fabric to be in contact with the skin at all points) to maximise sweat wicking potential. The high neck is easily rolled down under a dry seal. The Transpire fleece range was the chosen base layer for the Royal Marines Summit Expedition to Mount Everest in March 2003 and the Army Everest team in 2006.

Specifically designed for Sea Kayaking and Touring, but is also good for level 2 whitewater, rafting and recreational paddling. The Sea Kayaking PFD features 210 denier outer shell with tear resistant PU reinforced coating; PVC soft profiled foam, providing a low profile design for unrestricted movement; an 8 point strap adjustment system on the shoulders, side and waist belt to keep the vest in place; neoprene padded shoulders and upper back for comfort; sturdy front zip for easy entry and exit with non corroding nylon teeth and slider; full reflective '3M' piping on front, back and shoulders; front stretch flare pouch with velcro retaining loop; 2 secure zippered front draining pockets over soft neoprene handwarmers; 'D' ring inside pockets for secure attachments; large and secure back pocket for TOP FEEDING camel back drink holder or large rocket flare. Mitchell Blades Voyager Paddle

The Voyager is an excellent choice for touring. It has been designed for paddlers performing on the surf and enjoying journeys on the sea. It rewards a correct, higher snagle stroke however doen'st have the oversized blade area whihc many paddlers find exhausting over a longer paddle. The voyager’s blade widths offer firm stable strokes, and is very much a flat blade with the performance & strong catch characteristics of a wing blade, without the downside of the instability a wing can bring to support & bracing strokes. Resistance area 625cm2.

Brača Hurricane 100 (NEW)

Brača are renowned for their innovative & often imitated designs, and have recently developed the Hurricane 100 Min & Max in a full carbon, ultra light performance shape. Weighing in around 700gms, incredibly light even taking into consideration some of the technology used these days to manufacture paddles, the Hurricane designs offer a palatable reward for a strong stroke, with a modern, high angle shape. The spine is offset for a more efficient entry, exit and tracking. Its exceptional strength fully withstands extreme conditions and performs flawlessly in the open ocean. The spine height is also reduced greatly in comparison to other paddles of this genre in the market. The Max is a blade for the stronger paddler, comfortable pulling 720cm², while the Max is a more gentle size for longer distance touring, without losing any of the high angle rewards, with a 660cm² blade surface. Mitchell Horizon Greenland Paddle (NEW) – Now available as a split paddle

A superbly hand crafted Greenland style paddle, authentic to the West Greenland design, made by master paddler paddle crafter Peter Mitchell in the USA. The paddle features premium clear cedar construction, with hardwood lamination to resist warping, with walnut & epoxy end caps ensuring high impact resistance. The paddle is available in 205cm, 210cm or 215cm, weighing in at a miserly 720gms. The feel of this paddle through the water has to be experienced to be believed – a blade for the purist or an experienced kayaker keen to experience the Greenland revival in paddling.
